Mercedes-AMG Plug-In Hybrids Recalled – Affects 2023–2025 Model Years
In a recent development, Mercedes-Benz has announced a recall for specific plug-in hybrid models under its high-performance AMG division. This recall, which spans multiple models and production years, has been initiated due to a software error that may result in a loss of drive power, posing potential safety risks.
Mercedes-AMG Plug-In Hybrids: What Models Are Affected?
The recall impacts several models from the 2023–2025 production years. These include:
- AMG S 63 E Performance
- AMG GT 63 S E Performance 4-Door Coupe
- AMG GT 63 S E Performance
- AMG SL 63 S E Performance
- AMG GLC 63 S E Performance (both the standard SUV and coupe variant)
In the U.S. alone, approximately 2,943 Mercedes-AMG Plug-In Hybrid vehicles are affected by this recall.

The issue stems from a software error in the starter motor and generator control unit. This malfunction can cause a sudden loss of drive power, significantly increasing the risk of crashes. Mercedes-Benz highlighted that the problem was first identified in late 2024, following reports of vehicles failing to start.
Although no crashes or injuries have been reported due to this defect, Mercedes-Benz has emphasized the need to address the issue promptly to ensure the safety of its customers.

To resolve this problem, Mercedes-Benz is offering a free update to the control unit’s software. Affected vehicle owners will begin receiving notification letters starting April 29, 2025.
