Mazda Recalls Over 171,000 Vehicles for Airbag Deployment Risk: Includes 2024-2025 Mazda 3 and CX-30.
Mazda has issued a significant recall impacting 171,412 vehicles across the 2024 and 2025 model years due to a critical airbag deployment issue. The recall affects Mazda 3 sedans and hatchbacks (51,857 units) and CX-30 crossovers (119,555 units). If left unchecked, a malfunction in the Sophisticated Airbag Sensor (SAS) unit may prevent airbags from deploying, posing a serious safety risk.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has flagged a defect that could deactivate airbags under specific circumstances. If a vehicle’s battery is completely drained while the ignition switch remains in the “ON” position, the SAS unit records an internal fault.

When the battery is recharged and the car restarted, the airbag warning light activates, signaling the issue and preventing airbag deployment in the event of a crash. Mazda has confirmed that batteries depleted through other means, such as natural discharge over time, do not trigger this fault.
