Toyota bZ7: The Stunning Electric Sedan You Can’t Buy Outside China
Toyota has unveiled its latest flagship electric sedan, the bZ7, designed exclusively for the Chinese market. While the rest of the world, including the US, focuses on crossovers and SUVs, this luxurious EV sedan is breaking new ground in elegance and innovation, offering a glimpse into what could be possible for future Toyota vehicles.

The Toyota bZ7 boasts a sleek and aerodynamic design, establishing itself as the most elegant addition to Toyota’s bZ lineup to date. Measuring over 196 inches (5 meters) in length, the bZ7 is slightly larger than the Camry and shares its footprint with premium sedans like the BMW i5. Its fastback-style rear, low nose, and compact decklid contribute to its refined and modern aesthetic. The design of this car takes some cues from the Toyota Crown and Prius, giving it a blend of futuristic and familiar looks.

The bZ7 promises unparalleled luxury for the bZ series. Its interior design includes wood-trimmed accents that enhance the premium feel of the cabin. Although full details remain scarce, this EV stands out as a significant step toward combining style and sustainability in the electric vehicle segment.

No Shared Platform with Lexus ES
Interestingly, while Toyota and Lexus operate under the same parent company, the bZ7 and the Lexus ES do not share mechanical components despite being similarly sized. The Lexus ES is built on an updated version of the TNGA platform, whereas the bZ7 features a completely different architecture, possibly co-developed with and manufactured by GAC, Toyota’s local partner in China.

Why It’s Not Available in the US (Yet)
Toyota is putting a lot of emphasis on crossovers and SUVs in the US market, so a sedan like the bZ7 might not fit in with their current plan for American buyers. Nevertheless, if the bZ7 does well in China, it could lead Toyota to think about bringing similar models to other countries. Should the bZ7’s unique style and high-end features catch on, it could spark a trend for electric sedans in various markets, including the US.
