China’s electric vehicle (EV) landscape is evolving rapidly, and Leapmotor is making waves with the introduction of its first electric sedan, the Leapmotor B01. As a key partner of Stellantis, Leapmotor has already gained prominence with models like the T03 city car and C11 crossover. Now, the automaker is set to expand its portfolio with the B01 sedan, bringing fresh competition to the growing EV market.
Leapmotor B01 Design and Features
The Leapmotor B01 shares an aesthetic resemblance with its SUV counterpart, the B10, featuring sleek and modern design elements. The sedan boasts:
- Narrow headlights and a stylish LED light bar on the front fascia.
- Flush door handles, adding a premium touch.
- Minimalist rear styling with integrated LED taillights and a matching light bar.
While the design may not be groundbreaking, it adheres to the current industry trend of clean, functional aesthetics suitable for everyday commuting.

Performance and Battery
Leapmotor’s B01 sedan will come with two powertrain options, both utilizing lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs sourced from CALB.
- The entry-level variant is equipped with a 177 hp (132 kW) electric motor.
- The flagship model offers a more powerful 214 hp (160 kW) motor for an enhanced driving experience.
While details about the battery capacity and range remain undisclosed, expectations are high given the affordability of Chinese EVs. Additionally, buyers can opt for a roof-mounted LiDAR system, providing advanced driver-assistance capabilities.

Pricing and Market Positioning
One of the key highlights of the Leapmotor B01 is its competitive pricing. Reports suggest the sedan will be priced between 100,000 yuan to 150,000 yuan (approximately $13,600 to $20,400). This positions it as an affordable EV option for buyers looking for a sleek, functional, and modern electric sedan.
With the Leapmotor B01, Stellantis’ Chinese brand is aiming to capture a broader segment of the EV market. Though it doesn’t introduce a revolutionary design, its practicality, competitive pricing, and lithium-iron phosphate battery technology could make it a strong contender in China’s growing electric sedan space.
