Ineos Recalls Grenadier Models Over Faulty Door Latch That May Cause Unexpected Openings!
The Ineos Grenadier, a robust off-road vehicle praised for its rugged design and functionality, has recently come under scrutiny as the British automaker announced a recall of over 7022 units in the United States. This recall stems from a door latch issue that poses significant safety concerns for drivers and passengers alike.
The problem identified lies within the vehicle’s exterior door button mechanism. Improper assembly and insufficient grease application during manufacturing have caused the door buttons to stick in a depressed position. As a result, the doors may fail to fully latch and could potentially swing open while the vehicle is in motion. This not only endangers occupants but also poses a hazard to other road users.
Ineos Grenadiers Affected Models
The recall involves Grenadier models manufactured between July 6, 2023, and April 19, 2024. Owners have reported symptoms such as door buttons getting stuck and a noticeable difference in the sound of the door closing, indicating improper engagement with the striker. Additionally, dashboard warnings may alert drivers when a door is not fully closed.
Ineos first became aware of the issue in October 2023, following several warranty claims related to the sticky door buttons. Despite initial efforts to address the problem by reworking vehicles and issuing a technical service bulletin in February 2024, reports of doors opening while driving persisted. This prompted the automaker to classify the defect as a safety-related concern earlier this month.
The Recall Process
Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified starting March 31, 2025. Authorized dealers will replace all exterior door button assemblies free of charge. The new assemblies feature improved design and grease application processes, ensuring better functionality and enhanced safety.
While the recall highlights a significant safety defect, it also underscores Ineos’ commitment to addressing the issue promptly and responsibly. This proactive approach ensures that the Grenadier continues to deliver the durability and reliability that its owners expect.
