Ford Recalls Over 34,000 Bronco Sport & Escape SUVs (2020–2023) Over Fuel Leak Risk

In a significant move, Ford Motor Company has issued another recall, impacting thousands of Ford Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs. This recall affects over 34,000 vehicles globally, primarily from the model years 2020–2023. The issue stems from an unresolved fault in a prior recall, raising concerns about potential fuel leaks and heightened fire risks.

Ford’s latest recall impacts the following vehicles: Ford Bronco Sport vehicles made from 2021 to 2023, and Certain Ford Escape vehicles from 2020 to 2022.

The problem lies in a software-related failure. Although the vehicles were previously repaired as part of earlier recalls (identified as 24S16 / 24V092 and 22S73 / 22V191), it was discovered that the software updates required to mitigate the issue were not properly applied.

This lapse means that the fuel injectors in these vehicles might crack, potentially leading to pooling or vaporized fuel near a hot engine—a dangerous combination that increases the risk of engine fires.

Ford has a new plan to fix this issue. Dealerships will get updated service guides by April 24, 2025. Vehicle owners will get letters in the mail starting in May 2025. However, owners who are concerned about their vehicle’s safety don’t have to wait. By using the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) VIN lookup tool, they can determine if their vehicle is affected by this recall.
