2026 Volvo S90 Facelift Heads to China First, Skipping U.S. and UK Markets
Volvo has officially introduced a refreshed version of its mid-size luxury sedan, the 2026 Volvo S90 Facelift, featuring bold design upgrades and improved technology. However, for American car enthusiasts, there’s disappointing news—the latest iteration of the S90 will not be sold in the U.S.
Modern Design, Upgraded Infotainment, and Comfort
Volvo has taken a more polished approach to its design with the 2026 S90, following the same style philosophy used in the updated 2025 XC90 SUV. The front of the car now features a more streamlined grille with diagonal lines that mimic the Volvo logo arrow. The LED headlights stand out with the distinctive Thor’s Hammer daytime running light pattern.

In the back, you’ll find the chic redesigned taillights that perfectly match the contemporary look. Volvo has also added two new paint options—Aurora Silver and Mulberry Red—so now you have more color choices to pick from when buying.

Volvo keeps things simple yet luxurious inside, focusing on a fresh 11.2-inch vertical touchscreen for your infotainment needs. This upgrade from the previous 9.0-inch screen means quicker responses and a better overall feel when you use it. They’ve also improved the soundproofing, making the cabin quieter, and fine-tuned the adaptive suspension for an even more comfortable drive.

2026 Volvo S90 Facelift: Hybrid Powertrain Continues
Volvo has kept powertrain details under wraps, but it has confirmed that the plug-in hybrid variant will remain, expected to be an improved version of the T8 hybrid system from previous models. The all-electric range on the WLTP test cycle is anticipated to reach 49 miles, which translates to an estimated 42 miles under U.S. EPA testing standards. Other options include a turbocharged four-cylinder mild-hybrid engine with front-wheel drive.
The updated S90 is set to retain Volvo’s Pilot Assist system, enabling adaptive cruise control, automatic braking in traffic, and gentle steering assistance on highways and single-lane roads.

Why the 2026 Volvo S90 Won’t Come to the U.S.
Despite its appealing features, Volvo has confirmed that the 2026 S90 will not be introduced in the United States, citing factors such as low sales numbers and recently imposed import tariffs. While China remains the primary market for the S90, Volvo has hinted at availability in select other global markets.
With its refined design, improved technology, and continued focus on hybrid efficiency, the 2026 Volvo S90 is an exciting update for luxury sedan enthusiasts—just not in the U.S. market. For those in China and other regions, orders will open in summer 2025, marking the next chapter for Volvo’s flagship sedan.
