2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Named Official Pace Car for 109th Indianapolis 500
The Indy 500 is a hallmark of American motorsports, attracting millions of fans globally each year. However, this year’s event has a unique highlight—the official pace car, the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, boasts an astonishing 1,064 horsepower, surpassing the power of the race cars it paces.
The Corvette ZR1, known for its cutting-edge engineering and breathtaking performance, is stepping into the spotlight at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The IndyCar racers, equipped with 2.2-liter turbocharged V-6 engines, generate around 700 horsepower at maximum boost. With the addition of the hybrid system introduced in 2024, these vehicles can achieve approximately 800 horsepower. Despite its speed and agility, the Corvette ZR1 overshadows these race cars in sheer power, delivering an excess of 250 horsepower over its competitors on the track.

While the ZR1 isn’t built to match the IndyCars in speed and agility—capable of a top speed of 233 mph compared to the racer’s sustained speeds over multiple laps—it highlights just how far road car performance has come in recent years. The ZR1’s impressive stats include advanced aerodynamics through its Carbon Aero package and a classy livery of green and gold over white. These features, paired with the raw power of a street-legal vehicle, make it a remarkable addition to this year’s race.
Adding to the excitement, former NFL player and current “Good Morning America” host Michael Strahan will take the wheel as the celebrity pace-car driver. Known for his love of automobiles, Strahan is expected to bring energy and enthusiasm to the role, further elevating the event’s prestige.
