New Tesla RWD Cybertruck Long Range: High Price, Fewer Features
Tesla has made headlines yet again, unveiling the highly anticipated Cybertruck Long Range, a model aimed at being a cost-effective option in the Cybertruck lineup. Priced at $72,235, it’s a significant $10,000 drop from the dual-motor All-Wheel Drive variant, but this price reduction comes with notable compromises.
Enhanced Range and Charging Efficiency
One of the standout features of the Long Range model is its impressive 362-mile range—a 37-mile improvement over its dual-motor sibling. This increase is achieved by shedding the front motor and relying solely on a rear-drive setup. Additionally, the Long Range offers faster charging capabilities, gaining up to 147 miles of range in just 15 minutes using a Supercharger. This is a clear boost compared to the All-Wheel Drive and Cyberbeast variants, which gain 135 and 127 miles, respectively, during the same charging time.

Tesla RWD Cybertruck Long Range: Reduced Performance and Capability
Switching to a single-motor design has its downsides. The 0–60 mph acceleration time increases to 6.2 seconds, a notable slowdown from the 4.1 seconds of the All-Wheel Drive model. Towing capacity also takes a hit, dropping from 11,000 pounds to a maximum of 7,500 pounds. The payload capacity is similarly reduced, and ground clearance falls to 9.57 inches, down from 16 inches in higher-end models. This could impact the vehicle’s versatility for heavy-duty use.

Streamlined Features for Cost Savings
To make the model more affordable, Tesla has made several downgrades to the Long Range’s standard features:
- Interior Changes: Cloth seats replace synthetic leather, and only the front seats are heated. The previously included rear touchscreen and advanced noise-canceling audio system are omitted.
- Bed Functionality: The power tonneau cover, bed locker, and premium lighting are no longer available. Buyers must opt for a $750 soft tonneau cover to achieve the maximum range.
- Lighting Adjustments: Basic headlamps and tail lamps replace the premium options available on other models.

While the Long Range model is marketed as an affordable Cybertruck variant, it raises questions about value. The lack of features like adaptive air suspension, premium interior options, and reduced capabilities make it clear that the lower price comes with trade-offs. For buyers who prioritize range and budget over performance and luxury, the Long Range could be an appealing option.
