Opel Frontera Gravel Concept – Stellantis’ New Off-Road SUV for Off-Road Enthusiasts,
The off-road vehicle market has long been dominated by Jeep, one of Stellantis’ most recognized brands. However, Stellantis is making bold moves to show that rugged adventure isn’t exclusive to Jeep. The latest example? Opel and its UK partner, Vauxhall, have launched the Frontera Gravel. This is a small SUV built for off-road adventures.
Opel launched the Frontera last year as an upgrade from the Crossland and made it a true SUV. Unlike the older model, which combined van-like traits with crossover styles, the new Frontera is a strong and tall SUV. It comes with options for electric and hybrid engines, emphasizing its all-around versatility.

Opel Frontera Gravel: Rugged Design with Off-Road Appeal
Rebecca Reinermann, Opel’s marketing director, describes the Frontera Gravel as “rougher, tougher, and made for life beyond the asphalt.” The show car is designed to excite, with a matte black roof and hood that contrast against the Desert Stone exterior wrap. Bright orange accents highlight the bumpers, side mirrors, rear spoiler, and Opel logo.
The utility has been upgraded with a winch, towing hook, and side storage boxes designed for tough off-road conditions. Additional lighting has been added with extra headlights on the roof rack and hood, improving visibility at night. The Opel Frontera GRAVEL appears to be Opel’s way of testing interest in a tough, off-road-ready vehicle that appeals to outdoor lovers.

Will Opel Bring the Frontera Gravel to Market?
Despite its striking appeal, the Opel Frontera GRAVEL remains a concept at this stage. Given the rising interest in electric off-road SUVs—especially in the US market, where adventure vehicles thrive—Opel could consider launching a production version in the future. With major automakers investing in EVs tailored for rugged terrain, a commercially available Frontera Gravel could align with the growing trend of electrified outdoor exploration.
Electric SUVs with enhanced off-road capabilities are becoming increasingly popular, particularly as consumers look for eco-friendly alternatives to traditional gas-powered adventure vehicles. Opel’s Frontera Gravel concept aligns with this movement, reinforcing the idea that electric SUVs can be both sustainable and adventure-ready.
