French automaker Alpine is redefining the high-performance electric vehicle market with the introduction of its latest model, the all-electric Alpine A390. Designed as a powerful crossover coupe, the A390 offers a unique blend of sportiness and practicality, making it an exciting option for driving enthusiasts.

A Performance-Oriented Electric Crossover

The Alpine A390 distinguishes itself with an innovative tri-motor setup that delivers up to 470 horsepower, allowing the top-tier GTS variant to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds. Even the more reserved GT model offers an impressive 395 horsepower and a 0-62 mph time of 4.8 seconds. This level of performance ensures that Alpine’s latest creation stands out in the competitive EV market.

Despite sharing its underpinnings with the Renault Scenic E-Tech and Nissan Ariya, Alpine has engineered the A390 to provide a dynamic driving experience through active torque vectoring, a finely tuned suspension system, and high-performance braking. Moreover, its near-perfect weight distribution of 49% front and 51% rear ensures precise handling on various terrains.

Battery Technology and Range

The high-performance 400-volt battery, developed in collaboration with French battery specialist Verkor, is another highlight. With a capacity of 89 kWh, the A390 boasts a 345-mile range (WLTP cycle), making it suitable for long-distance driving. The battery maintains a steady power output even at lower charge levels, ensuring consistent performance.

Charging capabilities are also impressive, with DC fast charging speeds of 190 kW, allowing the battery to go from 15% to 80% in under 25 minutes. The A390 supports bi-directional charging, including Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functions, enhancing its versatility.

Interior, Infotainment, and Pricing

Inside, the cabin is modern and focused on the driver. It has a 12.3-inch digital gauge display and a 12-inch touchscreen, featuring a Google-based infotainment system with Android Automotive and Alpine Portal integration. Physical climate controls make adjusting the temperature simple. The seats are made of soft blue Nappa leather for a comfortable feel. The steering wheel includes a knob for regenerative braking and an “OV” boost button, giving the driver quick control options.

Pricing for the A390 is expected to start between €65,000-€75,000, translating to approximately $74,000-$85,000 in the US. While there is no official confirmation regarding availability in the US market, Alpine’s growing global presence hints at possible future expansion.
